Most projects for kitchen remodeling in Los Altos can be categorized into three different types, based on their costs and scope of work
This is the least expensive of all kitchen remodeling projects as the work is primarily cosmetic in nature. It usually involves tasks like painting works, refreshing the backsplash, replacing lighting and plumbing fixtures, re-covering the floor, refinishing cabinets, or setting up some new appliances. Completing the project takes just a few weeks.
As you might have guessed, this type of kitchen remodeling project is more involved than your basic renovation. This includes tasks like replacing all the major surfaces of a kitchen, as well as installing new flooring, countertops, sinks, and cabinets.
You can also add new features, like a new kitchen island or extra cabinetry. In most cases, major appliances will also be upgraded. Based on the exact scope of work, this might take a month or so to be completed.
In this type of kitchen remodeling project, you would be completely overhauling your kitchen. You can work on a new and improved floor plan, enhance the utilization of the space, and re-arrangement of pipes, gas lines, or wiring.
Most of the time, almost everything is changed or replaced. You might also want to go for premium finishes, luxe or specialty materials, and customized shapes and sizes of different elements. The project can take anywhere between several weeks to 2-3 months to complete.

Master bathrooms are commonly used by two or more people. Therefore, in most cases, it comes with double vanities, mirrors, shower heads, and a bathtub. Separate showers, ample storage space, and semi-private toilets are also found in the master bathroom.
They are smaller in size compared to the master bathroom. However, ensuites should still be functional, easy to use, and appear as spacious as possible.
A small bathroom will consist of either a shower or bathtub. It also generally includes a sink, vanity, mirror, and toilet. Alcoves or recessed niches also make use of wall space by creating integrated storage. This helps to open up more space in the smaller bath spaces.
A three-quarter bathroom will commonly contain a combination of shower, sink, toilet, and storage. They are generally located near the guest bedrooms to accommodate visitors and provide all the essentials and eliminating the need to share the family or master bath.
These bathrooms usually feature a toilet, sink, vanity, and mirror; which makes them a fantastic inclusion in homes that often entertain guests. Since space is limited in a powder room, the layout needs to be functional as you need to make sure that it does not look or feel cramped.

Once the work is done, we would schedule an inspection with the City Office. The City Inspector would visit your premises and once everything is done successfully, you would get the final approval.
Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) can be divided into the following types
You can think of this as a tiny house, granny pod, or backyard cottage. This particular type of ADU is built in the backyard of your existing home. They are often used as a rental, mother-in-law suite, or guest house for friends and family members.
A garage conversion aims to turn a pre-existing space like your garage into a full-blown living space. In most cases, this includes outfitting it with heating and cooling, insulation, as well as adding water lines for a bathroom and kitchen.
This is similar to garage conversion. However, they are often built within a larger garage with high ceilings. In most carriage houses, lower levels remain to be used as garage space, and the upper area is transformed into an apartment.
An internal conversion option is to create a basement apartment. This is commonly called an in-law suite. Basement apartments usually have an exterior entrance separate from the main house (though sometimes you have to go through the backyard to access it). Depending on your intention, you may or may not need an entrance to the main home from inside the apartment.
Some homeowners often wish to create an addition that can serve as a separate living unit for either family. These can also be used as rental space. Depending on the structure of the home, this might be structurally a one or 2 storey pop-out from one side of the house.
Also known as JADU, these units are less than 500 square feet. It could be anything from a self-sufficient tiny home to a fully functioning tree house apartment.
When building an ADU, you would need to understand the requirements. Fannie Mae, a government mortgage entity, has listed criteria for what must be included to call a construction to be an ADU:

Submitting the Application – Application and plans should be submitted on the Building Permitting Online Portal. Information regarding the land use and development requirements of your site can be obtained from the Planning Division.
Completing the Application – Once you have reviewed your plans, make sure that you submit your applications and plans, together with the plan check fees and Planning Division approved plans and/or notifications. These should be submitted to the Permit Center for plan check.
Scheduling the Inspection – After getting the plans approved, you would need to schedule the inspection with the city office. In most cases, there would be several rounds of inspections depending on the specific nature of the remodeling work.
